Governance

The Midcoast Internet Coalition is a voluntary coalition of towns that share common goals and educational resources for the adoption of regional broadband efforts. Some of those towns created a regional utility district under Maine law, a legal nonprofit corporation, called the Midcoast Internet Development Corporation

Vision

Our vision is a community that is fully connected through high-speed Internet and digital technology to support the educational, economic, and social needs of Midcoast Maine. 

Mission

Our mission is to provide every home and business in Midcoast Maine with access to affordable, high-speed, state-of-the-art Internet and best-in-class customer service.

Values

  • Community Owned: Community-controlled for the benefit of its customers.
  • Affordable: Services provided at a fair price.
  • Reliable: Dependable service with minimal downtime.
  • State-of-the-art: Incorporating the newest technology, ideas, and features.
  • Accessible: Removing financial and logistical barriers to utilizing the network.

Goals

  • Create a community-owned regional high-speed Internet network by 2024.
  • Establish an open-access network with multiple service providers.
  • Be a model community-controlled enterprise for the State of Maine.

Midcoast Internet Guiding Principles

The Midcoast Internet Guiding Principles  have been adopted by the Select Boards or City Councils of the following Midcoast communities: Camden, Lincolnville, Northport, Rockland, Rockport, South Thomaston, Thomaston, and Union.

Midcoast Internet Regional Utility

Midcoast Internet Interlocal Agreement

The Midcoast Internet Coalition towns of Camden and Rockport entered into an Interlocal Agreement in June 2021, creating the Midcoast Internet Development Corporation (MIDC). The nonprofit corporation is a regional broadband utility district pursuant to Maine law. To access documents pertaining to MIDC clink on the links below.
